ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

The first level or Elementary Education involves compulsory, formal education primarily concerned withproviding basic education and usually corresponds to a traditional six grade levels.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ELEMENTARY CURRICULUM

1. Demonstrate values embodied in the MCS Vision and Mission.

2. Acquire the habit of doing things with quality.

3. Appreciate their identity as persons created in the image and likeness of God through their knowledge and proper understanding of Christian Doctrine and Holy Scriptures.

4. Use experiential approaches which will enable the pupils to acknowledge GOD as the Father, Creator and Provider, Jesus as Brother and Redeemer, the Holy Spirit as Sanctifier, and persons as brothers and sisters in the Lord with Mary as the model disciple.

5. Understand one’s rights, duties and responsibilities in the family, in the community, and in a democratic society.

6. Develop basic understanding of Philippine culture and of the desirable traditions and virtues of our people.

7. Imbibe spiritual and civic values such as love of country and faith in God.

8. Acquire basic knowledge and skills in geography, history, arts, livelihood, and home economics.

9. Demonstrate skills in computing accurately, estimating, communicating, thinking analytically and creatively, and solving problems in daily life using appropriate technology.

10.Use appropriate language in oral and written communication in various context, and demonstrate proficiency in critical listening and reading while carrying out activities in everyday life.

11. Apply Science concepts and principles in varied life situations and demonstrate scientific attitudes and values in solving day-to-day problems pertaining to natural phenomena, the environment, health and sanitation, food production, and the use and conservation of resources.

LEARNING AREAS

CHRISTIAN LIVING

The program is implemented in all grade levels to bring about the integration of life of faith in their everyday living. Faith experience gives both meaning and value to their human existence.

ENGLISH

English as a subject is concerned with developing competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Listening is an information-processing act. It includes skills in auditory discrimination and cognitive comprehension. Speaking includes skills in using the language expressions and grammatical structures correctly in oral communication. Reading is getting meaning from the printed page. It includes skills for vocabulary development levels of comprehension, literary appreciation and study skills. Writing includes writing readiness skills, guided writing, functional and creative writing.

Learning activities to develop competence in these phases of communication should be varied, meaningful and realistic.

SPEECH

In the Grade School, the Speech Education is offered from Grade 3 to Grade 6. It aims to develop the pupils’ speaking skills so as to prepare them for oral discourse or oral interaction, thus, making them effective communicators. This course is incorporated with the English subject.

SRA (Science Research Associates)

A scientific approach in developing and enhancing the reading skills of students is made possible through the SRA. It meets the needs of slow, average, and superior learners by providing multi-level learning materials. It is a complete system offering individualized reading instruction to all the students.

FILIPINO

Ang asignaturang ito ay lumilinang sa mga kasanayan sa pakikinig, pagsasalita, pagbasa, pagsulat at pag-iisip sa Filipino. Saklaw ng mga kasanayan sa pakikinig ang masusing pagkilatis at mabisang pang-unawa. Sa pagsasalita naman, nahahasa ang wastong pagbigkas, paggamit ng mga pahayag at istrukturang panggramatiko. Sa kasanayan sa pagbasa, nalilinang ang husay sa pagpapalawak ng talasalitaan, pagkilala sa mga salita, pag-unawa at kasanayan sa pag-aaral at pananaliksik. At sa pagsulat napapaganda ang ayos ng sulat-kamay, naiaangat ang kasiglahan sa antas ng pagkatha at kasiya-siyang kaayusan pansulatin.

Para sa mabisang pagtuturo, ang mga tiyak na kasanayan ay malilinang sa pamamagitan ng mga sitwasyon at iba’t ibang kagamitan tungo sa lubusang pagkatuto. Ang mga bata ay tuturuan ng angkop na kagamitang pangliteratura tulad ng jingles, tugma, tula, diyalogo at iba pa.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics in Grades 1 and 2 includes the study of whole numbers, addition and subtractions, basic facts of multiplication and division, basics of geometry, fractions, metric and local measurements, the use of money and their application to practical problems based on real life activities. Grades 3 and 4 Math deals with the study of whole numbers, the four fundamental operations, fractions and decimals including money, angles, plane figures, measurement and graphs. In Grades 5 and 6, the child is expected to have mastered the four fundamental operations of whole numbers, performs skills in decimal and fraction, conceptualize the meaning of ratio and proportion, percent, geometry, integers, polygons, measurement and graphs.

SCIENCE AND HEALTH

This subject aims to develop a critical mind through an understanding of science concepts and principles, acquisition of science skills, and scientific attitudes and values, as well as understanding of food production and nutrition, sanitation and environmental conservation.

ARALING PANLIPUNAN

The subject is taught from Grade 1 through Grade 6 with Filipino as medium of instruction. It deals with man’s relationship to his fellowmen, his country, the government and society. It also integrates religion, character education, human values and concepts from different disciplines such as social psychology, anthropology, and sociology.

MUSIC, ARTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION (MAPE)

Music, Arts, and Physical Education are taught separately; however, lessons in each area are correlated and integrated for the development and propagation of the best in our cultural heritage, as well as the physical development of the pupils.

HOME ECONOMICS AND LIVELIHOOD EDUCATION (HELE)

Teaching of the subject begins in Grade 3 and covers phases of work in elementary agriculture, homemaking and family living, industrial arts and retail trade activities. This is designed to develop awareness and interest in occupational jobs and foster positive attitudes towards work in the utilization of resources.

COMPUTER EDUCATION

This subject is offered from the Preparatory Level to Grade VI. It aims to develop basic skills in operating the computer. The pupils are made aware that they now live in an Information Society and Global Village. They have to be equipped with the basic computer skills needed to excel in school and someday in a high – tech workplace and society.
